DESCRIPTION:An authentic\, fun and festive Maifest will be held at Germania Festival Grounds\, 51 Old DeGarmo Road\, Poughkeepsie\, NY! Friday May 18th\, 5-10pm\, Saturday Noon-10pm\, and Sunday May 20th\, Noon-6pm. Event features live German bands\, German food\, home baked desserts\, German beers\, children's entertainment\, Bavarian dancers and singers. Event will be held Rain or Shine under tents. Adult entry ticket $5 daily\, $4 Veterans and Active Military with valid ID\, children under 16 no cost. Parking is Free! Germania of Poughkeepsie\, founded in 1850\, is a not for profit organization committed to promoting German American Heritage throughout our Hudson Valley community. We accomplish this in part by hosting various events throughout the year including the Germania Maifest\, Germania Oktoberfest\, Germania Christkindlmarkt\, and Germania Heritage Day & Bake Sale at the Galleria Mall. Germania also sponsors numerous "Sister Clubs" and promotes various cultural programs. These include the German Singers\, Germania Almrausch Schuhplattler Verein\, Germania Blue & White Soccer Club\, The Steuben Society of America (Dr. Charles Gilbert Spross Unit #167)\, German Language Class and Ballroom Dancing Class. We are proud of the numerous prizes won by our chorus\, the trophies won by our soccer teams\, including NYS Cup\, and the repeated requests for performances and honors won by our Schuhplattler dance group. We also hold clothing\, food and toy drives for Hudson Valley churches and their families\, and grant scholarships annually to BOCES CTI Culinary program graduates. Our goods and services are purchased exclusively through locally owned\, Hudson Valley businesses. Over the past 168 years Germania has done much to enrich our area with programs in music\, sport\, dance\, and citizenship. Germania remains a private club\, and is actively looking to increase its membership. Enrollment is open to individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.
