Description
Written by two time Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage, The Secret Life of Bees is the third of three musical workshops featured in the 2017 Powerhouse season. Restless South Carolina white teenager Lily Owens wrestles with her controlling father and a haunting memory of her dead mother. Lily’s rebellious spirit is awakened after her black caretaker, Rosaleen is jailed. They escape their circumstances on an adventure, to find the truth about Lily’s mother’s death. They’re led to colorful bee farm run by three spiritual Black sisters, whose wisdom, warmth and motherly love help with growth and healing.
